Suspect Booked for 10 Counts of Computer Tampering

On Friday, April 25th, 2014 a 19-year-old female victim from San Tan Valley reported that her ex-boyfriend Jay Chapa (age 21 of Gilbert) had created a fake “Twitter” account under her name which had nude photos of her posted on the account. The Twitter account information was then sent out to over eighty of her friends. The victim reported she never gave permission to Chapa to create the account and she had repeatedly asked him to delete the account and its contents. Chapa told the victim that he did it to hurt her as she has hurt him by not dating him any longer.

On May 14th, 2014 PCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives contacted Jay Chapa and arrested him. Chapa made admissions to creating the account and has apologized for doing so.

Jay Chapa was booked for 10 felony counts of Computer Tampering.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “The victim had allowed Chapa to take the photographs of her while the two were dating. Chapa used the photos after their relationship ended in an unlawful manner and in an attempt to cause the victim pain and embarrassment. While he may have thought it was a good idea at the time, he now realizes he is facing ten felony offenses because of his stupid and immature actions.”
