Posted: 4/4/2014 12:00 AM

On Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 3:17 p.m. PCSO deputies responded to the intersection of Hunt Highway and Gary Road in San Tan Valley regarding a three vehicle hit and run collision.

Witnesses reported, the suspect vehicle; a 2004 Dodge truck ran the red light southbound on Gary Road at Hunt Highway striking the passenger side of the victim's car; a 2007 Infinity sedan, which was traveling westbound on Hunt Hwy., causing this vehicle to strike a third vehicle; a 2007 Toyota sport utility vehicle. After the collision, the driver of the 2004 Dodge truck fled the scene on foot. There were open cans of beer in the center console and open cases of beer in the cab of the Dodge truck.

The front seat passenger (female, age 48 from Coolidge) in the 2007 Infinity sustained very serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital by air ambulance. The driver (male, age 43 from Coolidge) of the 2007 Infinity, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance. The victims in the 2007 Toyota did not sustain injuries.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU) responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The detectives are following up on possible leads to identify the driver of the truck who ran from the scene. If you or someone you know has information about this collision they are asked to call 520-866-5111.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “There is little doubt this collision was alcohol related. The driver of the truck after causing this collision ran from the scene instead of staying to help the victims he injured. Through fingerprint and other evidence left at the scene, there is little doubt the driver will soon be identified and then arrested. The driver may have felt he would avoid criminal charges by running but instead he will now face additional charges.”
