Victim Walks in on Residential Burglary – Suspect Arrested
Posted: 11/20/2013 12:00 AM
On Monday, November 18th, 2013 at 3:55 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call related to a burglary in progress in the 8500 block of South Valley Vista Drive, Arizona City.

Deputies arrived at the residence within minutes of the call being received. The female victim told deputies when she arrived at her home she walked into her bedroom and observed an unknown male suspect. The suspect then ran through her house and exited out the back door and continued to run in a northwesterly direction.

Deputies quickly set up a perimeter and began looking for the suspect based on the description provided by the victim. The suspect was located and observed by deputies running through yards carrying a handgun. While running, the suspect was trying to cycle the gun and during the process he dropped the magazine containing the bullets. Deputies cornered him and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The handgun was located on the ground near where the suspect was arrested and additional bullets for the gun were located in his pocket.

Property Crime Detectives responded and took over the investigation. The suspect was identified as Angel Meza (age 36 of Eloy). Meza admitted to being in the residence but said, the “devil” set him up and also placed the stolen handgun and other property on him. He told detectives, he had recently used drugs. Meza is a convicted felon and is not allowed to legally be in possession of a firearm as a result.

Meza had stolen the gun, watches and other property from the residence. All of the stolen property was recovered.

Angel Meza was booked into the Pinal County Jail for Residential Burglary, Trespassing, Theft and Misconduct Involving a Weapon.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Usually when we arrest a suspect for a crime it’s not their first time they have experienced the judicial system. Detectives will look at the evidence collected in this case and see if Angel Meza was involved with other unsolved criminal cases. Meza will be headed back to prison where has served time in the past.”
