PCSO K-9 Deputy Seizes Drugs, Money and Weapon During a Traffic Stop

Posted: 4/21/2014 12:00 AM

On Monday, April 14th, 2014 at 4:50 p.m. a Pinal County Sheriff’s K-9 deputy was traveling eastbound on Interstate-10 near mile post 192 outside of the Casa Grande city limits. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Saturn Ion passenger car after he observed the window tint on the vehicle was too dark.

The driver of the vehicle was identified by his pictured Arizona Drivers License at Jose Real (age 47 of Tucson). On his lap he had a rolled up one dollar bill, he was wearing a black shirt which had a white powdery substance on it and he was wearing a baseball hat with a white powdery substance on it. The deputy could also see a digital scale commonly involved with the distribution of narcotics on the floorboard. The deputy asked Jose if he had used cocaine and Jose admitted he had snorted some earlier. He also admitted there was a little bit of cocaine inside of the vehicle.

Jose was placed under arrested. A search of his vehicle revealed it contained: 1.1 ounces of cocaine, .6 ounces of methamphetamines, 17 grams of marijuana, 5 marijuana pipes, one methamphetamine pipe, one Ruger 9mm handgun, 2 scales, and $2,011.00 was located in various hiding spots throughout the vehicle.

Jose is a prohibited possessor of a firearm due to the fact he has numerous prior arrests and felony convictions for narcotic sales, theft, possession of stolen property and misconduct involving a weapon.

Jose Real was booked into the Pinal County Jail for Possession of a Narcotic Drug for Sale, Possession of a Dangerous Drug for Sale, Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Misconduct Involved a Weapon. He was also investigated for driving a vehicle while impaired by a drug and driving with an illegal drug in his system. The impaired driving charges will be filed after the blood sample he provided is tested. His vehicle, the money and his drugs were seized.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Jose tried to claim the drugs found in a bag inside of the vehicle were not his, but evidently he must have forgotten his vehicle registration and insurance were inside of this same bag. When an individual uses a drug, the first thing to go is judgment. In this case not only did Jose use bad judgment when he decided to get behind the wheel after using cocaine but also when he left the dollar bill he used to snort the cocaine on his lap and forgot to wipe the cocaine he spilled off of his shirt.”
