Pinal County Adult Detention Center
The Pinal County Jail operates under the management and supervision of the Pinal County Sheriff.
The Pinal County Jail is the third largest County Jail in the state of Arizona, having a bed capacity of 1504. This places Pinal County into the Large Jail Category as defined by the National Institute of Corrections.
The existing Jail was opened April 1, 1996, with a bed capacity of 472. Due to the explosive population growth within Pinal County it became necessary to expand the County Jail once again. In July 2006 a 1032 bed expansion was opened. This expansion provided the much needed beds for the ever increasing inmate population.
The cost of the most recent expansion is being supplemented by a contract with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration, and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to house those individuals taken into custody by ICE and awaiting deportation. This contractual agreement provides essential funding to offset the cost of Jail operation to Pinal County taxpayers.
The county jail houses those individuals who have been arrested, charged with criminal offenses and is awaiting disposition of their cases within the criminal justice system. The county jail also houses those individuals who have been sentenced to serve their respective sentence in the county jail.
