National Trails Day 2010

Have you ever wondered how your favorite trail got built? Would you like to spend a morning constructing a portion of a National Scenic Trail, one of only 11 in the U. S.? Would you like to get some good exercise, meet a lot of great people, and have a great time?

If you answered yes to any of these, then join Pinal County and the Arizona Trail Association on Saturday March 27th at 7:30am as we construct a portion of the Arizona Trail in Pinal County and celebrate National Trails Day. There is no cost to participate and no experience is necessary. In fact, if you can do gardening or general yard work, you can build trail. All tools will be provided and participants are asked to bring water, snacks and a lunch. Dress should be sturdy shoes or boots, long pants and sleeves, hat, and leather work gloves. Directions to the event site and additional information can be found on the attached flyer

Several Pinal County departments are partnering to offer this event: Planning and Development, Pinal County Public Health District, Pinal County Employees Wellness Coalition, and Parks, Recreation and Fairgrounds. The objectives for promoting this event are:

  1. Health benefits-Hiking and other trail use activities offer numerous health benefits
  2. Trail awareness-Pinal County is home to many trail opportunities. Events such as this one highlight the recreational opportunities in Pinal County.
  3. Partnership opportunities-Not only are several Pinal County departments partnering to offer this event; National Trails Day events offer Pinal County the opportunity to partner with other land managing agencies within Pinal County.
