News: Deputy’s Best Friend on Display During PCSO K-9 Presentation

FLORENCE, Ariz. – The dog days of summer are months away, but members of the PCSO K-9 unit are ready to hit the streets.

Citizens had the chance to meet the unit and see the K-9’s in action Wednesday evening during a public event at the Windmill Winery and Event Center in Florence, which was hosted by the Arizona Public Safety Foundation.

The PCSO K-9 unit consists of (7) deputies and (7) K-9s and is headed by Sgt. Dave Hausman.

During 2011 members of the unit were directly responsible for seizing 12,964 lbs. of Marijuana, 225 lbs. of Methamphetamine, 16 grams of Cocaine, 188 lbs. of Heroin, 11 pills of Ecstasy and 161 drug paraphernalia items.

By the end of the event, proceeds collected from a raffle and private donations raised close to $1,000 to support the K-9 Unit’s efforts which include food, medical care and ongoing training for the animals.
