On Dec. 15, 2007, Posse Member Douglas Ewen was on a training patrol with Deputy Mark Terry when they responded to a call of a possible suicide. They discovered the garage door open and there was a heavy odor of car exhaust. Deputy Terry immediately began CPR on the adult male while Posse Member Ewen tried to console the woman, who was hysterical. The woman went around the car to the door to the house and discovered her four-year-old son unconscious by the door. He had apparently followed her into the garage when she went entered. Posse Member Ewen took the boy from the woman and carried him outside the garage and began checked his vital signs. The boy was unconscious, but had a pulse and was moaning. Ewen began pressing on his chest to assist him in breathing while calling him by name. After a couple of minutes, Deputy Terry came over to examine him, breathed a couple of breaths into the boy’s mouth, and when he was done, the boy let out a heavy sigh and began breathing normally.
