Pavement Preservation Projects to Begin September 24 in Arizona City, Eloy Areas

FLORENCE – Pinal County Public Works crews will be placing an Asphalt Dust Rock Palliative (ADRP) layer on four stretches of road in the Arizona City and Eloy areas. ADRP is similar to a chip seal and it is used to smooth and renew the road surface while cutting down on dust. Work will begin September 24.

These pavement preservation projects will use a combined total of 186,550 square yards of material to resurface approximately 22.7 lane miles of improved road. The project will use almost 2800 tons of chip and 357 tons of oil. The ADRP will lengthen the life of the road while also helping improve air quality by minimizing dust.

The roads to be affected by the pavement preservation project include:

Hanna Road from Curry Road to La Palma

Battaglia Drive from La Palma Road to State Route 87

Sunland Gin Road from Greene Reservoir Road to Harmon Road

Harmon Road from Sunshine Boulevard to Picacho Highway

The timing of this project may be changed due to inclement weather. Certain conditions need to be present for optimal results. Please be alert to possible traffic delays. Drivers are urged to obey the speed limit and all posted signs and barricades while traveling through these construction zones.

Employees in the Pinal County Public Works Department appreciate your patience and understanding as they work to improve your drive throughout the county.

To see the location of the ADRP project and other sites where road construction is taking place in Pinal County, go to Public Works’ road construction map at: http://goo.gl/Imi9E.

The Dangers Of Fireworks - Keep Everyone Safe And Free From Injuries

Body:

With the 4th of July right around the corner, people are stocking up on food, beverages, and party supplies. Fireworks has been an important part of this holiday celebration since our Nation was born. Take extra precautions to ensure that your holiday fun doesn't get ruined by accidents surrounding fireworks.

Here are a few tips:

Leave the fireworks to the professionals. There are many locations throughout the U.S. that have planned fireworks displays. Take advantage of going to one of these events and let the professionals handle the fireworks.

Do some yard maintenance to clear any dead or dry vegetation. All you need is one person to toss a firecracker onto the ground where there is dry vegetation. The result could be devastating. You don't want to be battling a fire because of someone's careless actions.

Be careful with all fireworks that are available for purchase. Sparklers can be as dangerous as M-80's. A person can get severely burnt and end up spending their holiday in the Emergency Room.

Take precautions with your pets. All animals, large or small, can be spooked by the lights in the sky, the sounds of fireworks exploding, or by the smell that lingers afterwards. Keep you pets safe and confined. All animals have the instinct to run away from something that frightens them. Don't let your pets get lost or hurt. Take precautions to keep them safe.

The Prevent Blindness America attachment has more information on fireworks safety. Take the time to read and share all of this information with friends and loved ones. Make this holiday a lasting memory, not a nightmare.

Happy Independence Day America.

Excessive Heat Can Be Deadly

Body:

Many people are exposed to heat on some jobs, outdoors or in hot indoor environments. Operations involving high air temperatures, radiant heat sources, high humidity, direct physical contact with hot objects, or strenuous physical activities have a high potential for causing heat-related illness.

Outdoor operations conducted in hot weather and direct sun increase the risk of heat-related illness in exposed workers.

HEAT ILLNESS CAN BE DEADLY. Every year, thousands of workers become sick from exposure to heat, and some even die. These illnesses and deaths are preventable.

What is heat illness? The body normally cools itself by sweating. During hot weather, especially with high humidity, sweating isn't enough. Body temperature can rise to dangerous levels if precautions are not taken. Heat illnesses range from heat rash and heat cramps to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke can result in death and requires immediate medical attention.
