TRAFFIC ALERT
State Route 87 and 287 (Coolidge)

October 24, 2009 - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) began a pavement improvement project on State Route 87 in Coolidge on September 15. The project, which starts from the junction of State Routes 87(Arizona Boulevard) and 287 (Florence-Coolidge Highway) and continues south for 3 miles, will consist of pavement removal and overlay, installation of pavement markings and traffic signal hoop detections, and replacement of sidewalks and driveways in specific areas.

Work will progress in 1 mile segments, starting between Martin and Coolidge Roads, as crews work on pavement removal. Crews will begin paving the southern 2 miles of the project in early October. In the interim through October 26, drivers will be traveling short distances on rough, milled road surface.

Throughout the length of the project, the roadway will be restricted to 1 lane in each direction in the one mile segment where work is taking place. Traffic restrictions will be in place 24 hous a day and motorists may expect slowing.

The project is anticipated to be completed on November 30.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed with caution, obey all posted speed limit signs, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. There is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. ADOT appreciates the public's patience during these improvements.
