SILENT WHISTLE SYSTEM

 Reasons to establish a fraud hotline:

  • Provides a convenient, anonymous method to report fraud and other unethical activities
  • Promotes awareness and serves as a deterrent
  • Demonstrates the County's commitment to a higher degree of accountability to the Public
  • Allows for prompt delivery of information, perhaps limiting potential losses

 Examples of what should be reported:

Known or Suspected:

  • Theft, misuse, or waste of County funds, property, information or other assets
  • Forgery or alteration of documents or records
  • Conflicts of interest, kickbacks, or favors to vendors and contractors
  • Misuse or abuse of office, position or authority
  • Employee harassment or discrimination

 Benefits of the Silent Whistle System:

  • Reporters may remain anonymous
  • Reports can be submitted via the web or by telephone
  • Trained interviewers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • Reporters may access and monitor the status of their reports using a case ID and password unique to their report
  • Access to reported information is limited to members of the Public Integrity Committee
