The Audit Committee

The Pinal County Audit Committee serves to strengthen the independence, integrity and effectiveness of audit activities by providing independent oversight and support of the internal audit work plan and assessing audit resource needs. The committee also helps ensure audit results are adequately communicated and that recommended improvements or corrective actions are addressed appropriately.  Committee members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

District 1-  Brian Wright, Chairman

Appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in March, 2010.  Mr. Wright is currently the Finance Director for the City of Eloy, Arizona and previously held positions as the Finance Director for Page, AZ and the Finance Officer for the City of Wilcox, AZ.  Brian received his Bachelors degree in Finance, with a minor in Accounting, from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado.    

District 2 -  John Hurley

Appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in January, 2013.  Mr. Hurley is Managing Director of Hurley & Associates in San Tan Valley, Arizona.  Mr. Hurley has over 30 years experience in evaluating financial and operational performace.  Mr. Hurley received his Masters in Business Administration in Finance and Acounting from the University of Chicago and his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Northwestern University.  He also holds a Project Managment Professional certification.   

 

District 3 -  Larry Rains

Appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in February, 2012.  Mr. Rains serves as the Deputy City Manager for the City of Casa Grande, Arizona.   Prior to this promotion, he held the position of City Finance Director for 6 years.  He has 22 years of experience in Arizona Municipal Government, where he has served three cities in the capacity of Finance Director.  In addition, he served as Manager for the City of Willcox for 8 years.   Larry attended Western New Mexico University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting in 1989.  He later went on to earn a Master's in Business Administration from Troy University in 1997. 

District 4 - Vacant

District 5 - David DeStefano 

Appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in January, 2013.  Mr. DeStefano is a retired Certified Public Accountant with nearly 45 years of experience in government auditing.  Most recently he was the Internal Auditor for the City of Chandler and his last position prior to retirement, was the Director of Internal Audit at Arizona State University.
