Pinal County Attorney’s Office files indictment against Tyler Kost, 18, on 27 counts

FLORENCE, AZ (5/8/14) – On Thursday, Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles announced his filing of a 27 count indictment accusing of sexually-related charges against Tyler Kost, 18, of San Tan Valley, AZ.

On Wednesday, the Pinal County Grand Jury returned a True Bill and Pinal County Attorney Voyles filed an indictment alleging criminal incidents, from Oct. 2009 through April 2014, involving 11 victims, ranging from 12 to 17 years of age.

According to the indictment, Tyler Kost is accused of:

o   3 counts - Sexual Abuse with a Minor, under the age of 15

o   6 counts - Sexual Conduct with a Minor, under the age of 15

o   1 counts - Child molestation, a child under 15

o   7 counts - Sexual Assault with a Minor, 15 or older

o   7 counts - Sexual Abuse with a Minor, 15 or older

o   3 counts - Sexual Conduct with a Minor, 15 or older

If the defendant were found guilty on all 27 counts, he would face a sentencing exposure between 147 years and up to 335.75 years in prison.

Tyler Kost is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.  He will be arraigned in Pinal County Superior Court on Friday, May 16, 2014.

“If there are any other victims out there, in this case as in all sexual or physical abuse cases, I encourage you to come forward and talk to a police officer.  I want victims to know that my office starts by believing,” Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles stated, and continued by saying, “When I came into office, it was reported that as few as 1 in 13 sex crimes were being reported to law enforcement.  Now we believe we improved the reporting of those crimes and are closer to 1 in 8 and while this number is not great, it is hoped that through the opening of the San Tan Valley Family Advocacy Center, which is soon to come, we expect to further improve on that number.  Sex crimes, like other serious and dangerous offenses, represent lasting and often devastating effects for victims.  We must continue to work as a society to ensure more victims come forward to seek the help they need as my office seeks the justice they deserve.”
