Defense attorney Carmen Lynn Fischer Garcia sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to two counts

FLORENCE, AZ (3/25/2014) – On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles announced Carmen Lynn Fischer Garcia was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to one count of attempted money laundering and one count of assisting a criminal street gang.

A plea agreement in the matter was filed on February 18 and Fischer returned to court to be sentenced one month later, on March 17.  At the sentencing hearing, she received a three year term to be served at the Arizona Department of Corrections and will face four years of supervised probation upon release.

According to the agreement, Fischer’s probation will include gang terms, which are established by the probation officer and, typically, include not associating with, or being seen with, documented gang members or gang associates and not communicating with them, through any method.

According to the Factual Basis, Fischer admitted that  she assisted Angel Garcia, aka Chipas, from December 2007 to July 2013, by passing information relevant to his criminal organization and assisted with the movement of money and other things of value, including but not limited to “secure packs” for inmates in state and federal prison.  She also admitted she was aware Garcia was an active member in a gang and that by passing on information and money at his directive she was assisting the gang.

Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles stated, “For over four years, Fischer acted as a conduit of information for a gang and funneled money to and for inmates in Pinal County.  No more.  Fischer now joins those she seemed intent on serving, illegally.”
