23 year old Dakota Williams guilty on seven counts; at minimum, faces decades behind bars

FLORENCE, AZ (11/15/13) – Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles announced Thursday that a Pinal County Jury returned guilty verdicts on seven out of eight charges against Dakota Williams, 23 of Coolidge, AZ, who was arrested in March 2013.

Prosecutors proved that Williams sexually assaulted two individuals within a one-month span - a Coolidge man on January 27, 2013 and a woman needing a ride from Casa Grande to Phoenix on February 17, 2013.  In both instances, he picked them up, drove to a remote location, sexually assaulted them, and left them. Three of the charges from the incident on January 27 included an additional allegation of being dangerous due to threatening the use of a knife.

Prosecutors believe Williams targeted the male victim due to his being a transvestite, who dresses as a woman, and the female victim due to her limited knowledge of English and the fact that she was searching for someone to give her a ride from a Casa Grande domestic violence shelter back to Phoenix, so she could report for work the next day.

In total, Williams was found guilty on four counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual abuse, one count of unlawful imprisonment, and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Williams will be sentenced on December 16, 2013 before Honorable Judge Soos and faces up to 34 years based on the four sexual assaults, which run consecutively, and additional three counts.

“This serial rapist perceived these victims as vulnerable and attempted to take advantage of them, specifically, in hopes they remain silent.  Fortunately they spoke up, preventing additional victims,” stated Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles. “Although Williams claimed both incidents were consensual, driving to the middle of nowhere, wielding a knife, and demanding sex falls drastically short of any measure of consent.  One by one, violent criminals learn that this office prosecutes them to the fullest extent of the law and now Williams learned this first hand and faces decades behind bars,” he continued.
